‘BARRING FROM YOUR MIND ALL REMEMBRANCE
OF WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN, AND BEING ALWAYS ON
THE LOOKOUT FOR WHAT HAS NEVER BEEN.'

About

Ostillo’s mission is to provide public access to ambitious contemporary art and ideas through exhibitions, events, research, education, cultural programs that inspire curiosity, encourage critical thinking and foster meaningful engagement with the world around us.

Ostillo takes its name from Ostilio Ricci, a Renaissance mathematician and professor at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence. Best known for mentoring the young Galileo Galilei, Ricci helped shape one of the most influential scientific minds of the modern era. His legacy lies in the transmission of knowledge, linking Renaissance science to the emerging Scientific Revolution through his most famous student.

Ostillo carries forward that spirit of transmission through art.

One letter has been replaced to reveal the word “Still,” a reminder of art’s ability to stop us in our tracks and hold us there, focus our attention and make looking an active form of discovery. This kind of attention resonates with Texas, where tradition and innovation continue to shape one another.
